Walker Medical Instructional Services was founded in 1998 in Walker, Michigan. Its purpose is to serve the medical field in a select few of its fastest growing areas. The need for competent, compassionate hands-on caregivers is only going to expand and there will be an upward growth cycle for many years. Walker Medical has an excellent reputation for the quality of their training from area employers and the medical community.

Since 1998 WMIS has offered a comprehensive state Certified Nurse Aide Training program.
Since 2004 WMIS has offered the Patient Care Technician certification program.

The classroom teaching and laboratory sessions are operated out of Walker Medical’s main campus located at 1035 Four Mile Road NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49544.

In 2003, Walker Medical signed a partnership agreement with Grand Rapids Community College to offer CNA classes at GRCC’s Leslie E. Tassell M-TEC building and labs in the downtown campus facility. The partnership with GRCC has opened up many new avenues for students who interested in furthering their medical education. The program at GRCC is overseen by an Advisory Committee made up of community leaders representing a broad spectrum of medical and medical employment backgrounds.
Walker Medical conducts its clinical practicum with our clinical partners. We are proud of the broad range of experience our students can receive at Clark Retirement Community, Porter Hills Presbyterian Village, Spectrum Kent Community Campus, Metro Health Hospital, St. Ann's Home and Brookcrest.

Walker Medical Instructional Services reserves the right to reject any individual applying for enrollment in a Walker Medical health care worker certification program due to a negative history or other factors which in the opinion of Walker Medical renders an applicant unsuitable for enrollment.

YES! Walker Medical backs all CNA graduates with a guarantee. If you do not pass the state test on the first try we will put you through a 6 - 8 hour refresher course (boot camp) for free.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
Walker Medical is located at 1035 4 Mile Road NW, Grand Rapids, MI49544. Just west of Alpine Ave on 4 Mile Rd and we are attached to the Plumbs grocery store. Since we receive many phone calls a day, if you roll over into the message system, it is best to leave a message and we will return your call within 24 business hours.

DO YOU HAVE JOB PLACEMENT? Yes, Walker Medical will do referrals and references for all our successful students. We have a career center with job hunting and interviewing skill resources as well as a job posting bulletin board updated regularly and available to all graduates.
WHAT IF I HAVE A FELONY OR A MISDEMEANOR?
All students who apply for enrollment at Walker Medical must pay $12 for a criminal background check, acceptance into any program is pending the outcome of the CBC. WMIS participates with Public Acts 27, 28 & 29 of the Public Acts of 2006. If you have a criminal history, no matter how minor you must disclose it upon application to the program. If you are not completely honest in your disclosures and are subsequently removed from class you will forfeit any money paid.
WHAT'S YOUR REFUND POLICY?
The tuition and fees paid by the applicant shall be refunded if the applicant is rejected by the school before enrollment. An application fee of not more than $25.00 may be retained by the school if the application is denied.
All tuition and fees paid by the applicant shall be refunded if requested within 3 business days after signing a contract with the school. All refunds shall be returned within 30 days.

Once the 3 business days have elapsed the following refund policies will apply:
· A student who does not atted their scheduled orientation is dropped from the class roster and the school will retain the $112.00 registration fee. If the student reapplies to the school they must pay a new $110.00 registration fee

· A student who fails or withdraws post orientation or fails the class during days 1 - 3 of class will receive a refund of 75% of their tuition. The school will retain the $112.00 registration fee, plus 25% of the tuition. Refunds will be received in 30 days.

· A student who fails or withdraws post orientation or fails the class during days 4 – 9 will receive a refund of 50% of their tuition. The school will retain the $112.00 registration fee plus 50% of the tuition. Refunds will be received in 30 days.

· A student who fails or withdraws post orientation from the class in during days 10 -13 of class will receive a refund of 25% of their tuition. The school will retain the $112.00 registration fee plus 75% of the tuition. Refunds will be received in 30 days.

Students must be eligible to apply for reinstatement to the program. The reinstatement must be approved.
Walker Medical Instructional Services, Inc. reserves the right to reject any individual for reinstatement into the CNA certification program due to a negative history or other factors which in the opinion of Walker Medical Instructional Services, Inc. renders an applicant unsuitable for reinstatement.

· A student who fails the class during days 6 – 9, who does not wish to permanently withdraw from the class, may waive their right to a refund, with vendor approval if sponsored and pay a reinstatement fee of $275.00 to repeat class starting from day 6.

· A student who fails the class during days 10 – 13 who does not wish to permanently withdraw from the class, may waive their right to a refund, with vendor approval if sponsored and pay a reinstatement fee of $175.00, to repeat class starting from day 10, or $275.00, to repeat class starting from day 6.

Once a student chooses to withdraw from the program and receive a refund, they waive their right to reinstatement in the program.

Students who are rejected for reinstatement will receive the refund that is applicable to the time frame of school attended which is listed above. If the student is sponsored the sponsoring agency will be billed appropriately based on contractual agreement.

Students who are permanently dismissed from the program for disciplinary reasons are not eligible to apply for reinstatement.

DO YOU WORK WITH MICHIGAN WORKS! etc?
Walker Medical works with Michigan Works, JET, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Hospice, Women's Resource Network and all area nursing homes. We also have a special in-house program if you have exhausted your unemployment benefits.
DO I HAVE TO WEAR A UNIFORM?
Yes for the clinical portion of the program. Everyone dresses the same (including instructors) and it assures that our students are easy to identify so family members of residents know that you are a student. This also provides fairness so you are judged solely by your ability to perform their clinical skills. Students may sell their used uniforms, books and equipment to each other at the end of classes if they desire.

Walker Medical Instructional Services Alpine & 4 Mile campus is located 1/4 mile west of Alpine and is attached to the Plumbs grocery store. The Rapid Bus #9 comes out to this area.

Driving Directions to Walker Medical
You need to use I-96, then exit at the Alpine north exit. Travel north on Alpine and turn left on 4 mile. We are attached to the Plumbs grocery store.
If for some reason you miss the I-96 exit and get stuck on US131 North - stay on it and exit at West River Drive. Turn right onto West River drive. Travel south to 4 Mile road. Turn right or west onto 4 Mile road. Take 4 Mile road and 1/4 mile past Alpine on the right hand side of the road is a Plumbs grocery store - we are attached to the Plumbs grocery store.
