James C. Curtiss is an attorney with over 30 years of employment law experience, focusing primarily on litigation of claims for sexual harassment, whistleblowers, race, age, gender, and disability discrimination, fringe benefits, nonpayment of commissions, noncompetition clauses, and wrongful termination. Although most current clients are employees, I represent both employees and employers. During first several years of my legal career I represented a large automaker headquartered in the Detroit area in most of its major employment trials in southeastern lower Michigan. My present clients come from Wayne, Oakland, and Washtenaw Counties, including Detroit, Canton, Plymouth, Livonia, Northville, Westland, Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, Belleville, Taylor, Inkster, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Redford, and Taylor. I am a partner in the firm of Borda Lorenz, P.C.
Despite longstanding legislation outlawing sexual harassment, it remains a serious problem for many women in the workforce. Many employers frequently attempt to cover up incidents of sexual harassment and ultimately punish the woman who complained. Employers give little recognition to the pain and suffering caused to the victims, who are often forced to choose between the extreme stress of working in a hostile environment or going without an income. A person experiencing sexual harassment needs sound legal advice. Recent court decisions have introduced additional complexities and legal barriers to the successful pursuit of sexual harassment claims. Without an attorney knowledgeable about the law and familiar with the dynamics of how employers deal with sexual harassment, a victim of sexual harassment is likely to have little success in achieving a just outcome.
I handle not only sexual harassment matters, but nearly every other type of employment law issue including employment discrimination, fringe benefits, whistleblowers and other wrongful termination claims, noncompetition clauses, employment contracts, Family and Medical Leave Act, and severance packages. I pursue most lawsuits on a contingent fee basis, where any attorney fee is paid out of the recovery. With my first-hand knowledge of how employers deal with employment-related legal issues, I can bring a unique perspective to dealing with your claim. I am a small firm and very selective with my cases, so you will not have to fight through an army of secretaries, law clerks, legal assistants, and junior lawyers to get to me.
I have obtained favorable results for many clients, including settlements ranging into the hundreds of thousands. Since I offer free email or telephone consultations, I invite you to contact me.
