Believe me when I say it is a horrible feeling locking your car keys inside your car. Locking your keys in your car is one of those mistakes most of us if not all are bound to make one day. Being in a hurry is always the main culprit why your car key ends up in the wrong place at a wrong time. People start to panic often times losing control over things you can handle in many different ways.

Knowing how to get back into your car will most likely not apply to every driver in the country. But calming down is the very first step one should make if you end up in this scenario. If you do not know how to hand this situation, do not try to do it yourself without a know-how or you might end up damaging your car and will cost you even more in an attempt to make up for your careless error.

Fortunately, we have tips on how to get back on the road quickly. Depending on the type of door locks your car has, and on the tools you have at your disposal, there are several ways you can do to unlock your vehicle.

String Method

The method is simply just making a slipknot in the middle of the shoelace or any string you have available with you. Then pull it inside of the car through the corner crack between the car door and the car frame. Pulling the shoelace from side to side until it loops around the lock’s pull knob. Just pull upwards when the string is locked in the doorknob. Of course with the newer car models we have available nowadays this method may be limited to the older cars.

Hanger Method

Like I said in the previous tip, it depends on what tools you have at your disposal will dictate your approach in unlocking your car. Using a hanger is one of the most classic ways if not the original one to unlock your car. It’s especially effective for older cars. Just simply bend the hanger straight and make a hook. Slip the hook behind the weather-stripping at the bottom of your car's window directly to your door handle. Rotate the hanger until the hook is locked-up and then you can start to pull up. It may need several attempts but still is a good way to get back in your car.

Both methods may work but definitely will take a little while since you are not expert at unlocking your car. It may also cause a little damage to your property depending on how you execute these steps.

Calling a locksmith

If you are in this situation, yet you do not have any know-how nor the tools to try these steps and more importantly you do not want to damage your car, the best option for you is to call an expert. There are several reasons why you need an auto locksmith. Locksmiths are always available depending on your location. They can cater to your urgent car service needs. Locksmiths know every car model and how to handle every situation. And more importantly, they can give you good advice to avoid the same situation.
