If you walked into the Bowery Hotel on this balmy summer day, you would have felt as though you were transported to the most wonderful Old World gathering. Corinne and Norberto wanted to create a romantic setting that paid homage to the groom's Argentinian roots.
The bride carried a creamy bouquet of peonies, garden roses and spray roses; the bridesmaids a complimentary bouquet of roses, lisianthus and sweet pea.
The guest book was placed in an intimate nook housing a display of family photos. Sweet little pressed crystal glasses filled with delicate blooms were placed in glass bell jars atop stacks of vintage books.
Floral arrangements of lush greenery, fragrant seasonal blooms and brass candleabras lit up the family style tables. I love the table number details- vintage vanity mirrors w. numbers scribed in curly calligraphy.
This was seriously, one of my favorite weddings to date. There are so many other pieces we don't have photos of yet, and I am dying to show you, including a 5 ft. escort card piece, and a fireplace that is arranged to appear overgrown with greenery and flowers.
The bride was a joy to work with as was her wedding planner Annie Lee and the staff of the Bowery Hotel.
The summer wedding season is in full swing and we have been fortunate to work with some amazing Brides at some of our favorite venues; Hyatt on the Hudson, The Liberty House Restaurant, The Bowery Hotel NYC to name a few. This summer has had some of the hottest days I've experienced. I always worry about how our beautiful brides and their flowers will fare on these sweltering days.
Here are some tips for Brides planning a 2011 Summer wedding.
When choosing flowers for your summer wedding, try to choose flowers that are in locally grown in the NJ/ NY area (dahlias, cox comb, hydrangea ), or available in similar hot weather climates (like calla lilies and roses from Ecuador or orchids from Hawaii).
Try to keep your flowers as fresh as possible. Keep your bouquets in water when possible and in a cool place. The same goes for your centerpieces, make sure they are well hydrated and spared from extreme heat conditions.
You can't control the weather, but you can definitely prepare for it.
This isn't the first time (or the last) you've seen us blog about the glorious Peony. They are blooming everywhere! All over Van Vorst Park, in my neighbors' beautifully landscaped front yard, in my mother's backyard. Everywhere but my little city yard that lacks enough sunshine to keep them happy. Oh, how I wish I could grow them! So sad... Beware of me and my clippers, I may be helping myself to some of your gorgeous blooms!
These fluffy, romantic, heartstoppers don't need much fussing or "arranging". This amazing bouquet (left) was picked in Mom's garden and placed in a simple glass vase. Equally as striking, would be a single large headed peony in a bud vase or a glass bottle.
Let me leave you with some eyecandy, my favorite Antheia Peony bouquets that were created for weddings.
Spring has sprung, and its here in full force!
This season, each day holds something new for us. Flowers have begun to bloom, and trees have started to re-leaf, which is such a relief from Winter's harsh chill.
A time for renewal, growth, and new life, this is also the best time to get out and start a garden. If you don't have a green thumb, you can start with beautifying your front stoop or porch. Sweep up your space, roll up your sleeves and get your hands in some dirt! I love the look of geranium and trailing ivy. Not only do the bright red geranium look great against brownstones, but they also repel pesky flies.
This is the best time to start beautifying your urban garden. Irena Lester, Antheia Staff designer, and owner of IGLGarden, and recommends container gardens of perennial plants like primula, sedum, or begonia.
