South Seas Palm Company is located in Hartford, southwest Michigan and has been growing Kentia Palms at its greenhouse facilities since 1996. People have been known to have said "Hey, no one can grow Kentia Palms in that cold climate", but that is exactly what we do. Our Kentias are grown in heated greenhouses exactly the same way the Europeans grow their Kentias, and we produce the same excellent quality Kentia that has adorned the finest hotels and establishments since Victorian times.
Seedlings used by South Seas Palm Company for its Kentia production are imported from Norfolk Island in the South Pacific. "Quality seedlings produce quality Kentia plants". Norfolk Island has a reputation as being one of the world's best suppliers of Kentia Palm seed and seedlings, and its annual production is used by foliage growers in a number of countries worldwide.
The Kentia Palm which we grow in an enclosed environment develops differently from a field grown Kentia. Firstly, growth time under temperature control is a little faster than outdoor growing. Secondly, under indoor growing conditions the Kentia portrays a more upright configuration, but once installed into any interior placement it will eventually develop a canopy appearance like any field grown Kentia.
Kentia Palms produced by South Seas Palm Company can be found at numerous locations throughout North America. Florida and California growers use them for their production, interior landscapers throughout the Midwest and on the East Coast use them for installation. A number of Garden centers and wholesale foliage plant providers also have our Kentias available.
