SHAR is a member of the Therapeutic Communities of America and the World Federation of Therapeutic Communities.
SHAR Inc. provides a range of specialized programs and services as diverse as the populations we serve and the problems they bring. We take great pride in our ability to provide effective treatment services to men, women, women with children, the employed, the unemployed, correctional clients and individuals with co-occurring disorders, HIV/AIDS, homeless, or suffering from any other number of social problems. Although programs evolve based on need and resources, central to service delivery are our four core program components.
SHAR is about empowering people to take control of their lives and offering the resources necessary to do that long term. It is about social justice to help people society has deemed permanently lost, so that they can become the citizens that a community points to as active mentors to other struggling people. SHAR is also about demonstrating that like-minded agencies can collaborate on a much larger scale that will have a significant impact on a city beyond the recovering aspects truly a community without walls.
SHAR is a Therapeutic Community; one of only a few in Michigan. The treatment philosophy is based on the Therapeutic Community (TC) model with the primary agent of change being the community. We believe in self-help, behavioral change, tough love, empathy and other principles that promote personal growth and responsibility.
Our programs are unique, effective and administered by staff with extensive experience in substance abuse, mental health treatment and the therapeutic community modality. Services are individualized, provided with utilization of best practices of behavioral health and medical science, as appropriate. In addition, SHARs medical and ancillary staff includes physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, nutritionists, food service, maintenance, transportation and other qualified personnel to support our service delivery.
