Musical Arts for Justice in the Community (MAJIC) is a ministry of Bethlehem Lutheran Church that provides an opportunity for local and regional musicians and artists to present their original work in the Heartside neighborhood. The goal of MAJIC is to foster an environment for artistic appreciation and education while at the same time helping the poor and homeless in the neighborhood and greater Grand Rapids area. Performances take place the second Friday of every month in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Sanctuary located at 250 Commerce 49503 in downtown Grand Rapids. The performances begin at 7:00PM. Concerts are free with a $10 suggested donation. This year MAJIC will give its at the door donations to the Heartside neighborhood. Funds will be given to the Heartside Fund, which is held in trust by the Heart of West Michigan United Way, to assist agencies and ministries in the neighborhood to provide emergency needs such as prescription co-payments or bus passes to allow a neighbor to get to a new job until their first paycheck arrives. By increasing the Heartside Fund, emergency needs are met and neighbors are assisted in moving from dependence to independence. Funds will also be donated to Heartside Music Together, an early childhood music program that provides scholarships to low income families to participate in music classes with their children in the Heartside neighborhood.
