Welcome to the North American Taekwondo and Hoijeon Moosool Academy (NATA), one of the first and longest standing martial arts schools in North America. With over 50 years of world-class instruction the NATA is the home to the best, time tested martial arts education in the Ypsilanti / Ann Arbor area. Our devoted instructors strive to help each member reach their full potential, building strong bodies, focused minds and strength of character. Our internationally certified martial arts curriculum positions each member for success in the classroom, in the workplace, and the world at large.
North American Taekwondo and Hoijeon Moosool Academy

As the name suggests, the NATA specializes in offering instruction of the Art of Taekwondo (Tae Kwon Do; TKD) as well as Hoijeon Moosool (Hoi Jeon Moo Sool; HJMS).
Our Taekwondo program features a rich history of traditional martial arts practices originating from the Chang Moo Kwan style of Taekwondo. Currently, our TKD program offers:

Kukkiwon certified instructors
Important character builiding aspects such as: Discipline, Respect, Confidence, Self-Control, and Physical Fitness
Olympic style sparring programs as regulated by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) sanctioned rules
Decades of experience bringing out the best in all of our students for whatever life brings their way

Hoijeon Moosool applies scientific principles and practical understandings to overwhelm an opponent expending minimal energy whilst maximizing efficiency. Based on the art of Hapkido, Hoijeon Moosool is a modern take on classical methods for self-defense emphasizing practicality and effectiveness.
The NATA offers instruction in the Hoijeon Moosool system by certified World Hoijeon Moosool Federation (WHJMS) instructors. Our Hoijeon Moosool program is great for:

Women seeking an effective self-defense system

People seeking development of coordination, balance, and flexability

Hoijeon Moosool is a specialized and unique martial art. The NATA is the only school in the area officially sanctioned to teach it with certified instructors. If you are in need of an effective self defense system, this is the place to be.
Today, the NATA continues the decades long tradition of producing some of the greatest martial artists in southeast Michigan, all from the heart of Ypsilanti. Our academy is comprised of a 95 square foot training area as well as a full martial art supply store, maintaining a standard for martial arts unmatched in the area.
