Yamaha Music Education System
Keyboard Music Works is an authorized Yamaha Music School. We have been creating incredible musicians for over 20 years in the Detroit area. We currently have 200 students in over 30 music classes at various levels, starting as young as 3 years of age.
Yamaha Music Education is based upon the belief that music is for everyone, that all people have innate musical ability and that human life is made better by music. The purpose of the Yamaha program is to help each student develop into a well rounded musician.

This is created by a balance of ear training, note reading, improvisation, composition, ensemble playing, solo performance, arranging skills, theory, technique, and singing. The Yamaha Music Education System is a comprehensive, international music course with schools in 35 countries.

Yamaha maintains two research and development centers in the U.S. which carefully monitor Yamaha students progress so enhancements can be consistently made to the existing curriculum. When you enroll your child in a Yamaha class, you can be assured that you are involved in a program which has high standards and tremendous quality control.
Yamaha Music Teachers

Yamaha teachers are chosen for their strong musical background, ability to play all keyboard instruments, a clear singing voice, and for their special rapport with children. They all have an innate ability to instill musical knowledge and to develop a passion for music in their students.

Yamaha teachers are observed at all levels of their teaching by master teachers who give them feedback on their teaching. They must pass a difficult series of musical exams and undergo constant training at the Yamaha centers to make the Yamaha course an exciting and enriching experience for your child.
When is your child ready to start music training?

Children are ready when their ear is ready, between the ages of 3 and 7. Children under the age of 7 learn best by ear, before their eye hand coordination develops in the brain. Therefore, Yamaha's teaching method is a perfectly natural one. It works with the single most important musical resource we have - our ears. Young children learn best by ear, as their small motor skills are developing. With our older beginners, we develop the ear as well as the eye.

Traditional piano lessons focus only on the eye and the intellect. The Yamaha Education system provides the traditional aspects of musical training as well as the ability to play by ear, arrange music, to improvise and to create compositions.
The most unique features of Yamaha Group Lessons
Motivating group experience. Learning in a group provides a fun, encouraging environment for our students. Yamaha students have fun creating music with friends of similar age and ability. Performing as a group, as well as a soloist in the comfort of their peers provides motivation and builds confidence.

Students learn from each other and motivate their classmates with each individual's own unique musical ideas and accomplishments. Many of our classes are together for 6 years or more, so friendships develop along with the music!

Creative musical exposure
One of the most unique aspects of the Yamaha Education system is the creative nature in which the course is taught. We encourage our students to create their own variations and arrangements as they advance musically in our classes. This develops incredibly creative young musicians. Many of our students have written their own compositions and our school has State and National composition winners in various competitions every year. We have had composers as young as 5 and students representing our school at National composition concerts as young as 8.

Yamaha students develop many musical skills beyond learning to play the piano. Their highly developed ears allow them to memorize music easily for more confident performances at all levels of their development. Our students are very rhythmic performers because of their experience playing in a group and with the CD accompaniments designed to go with many of the pieces in their books. They can easily play with other musicians or rhythms on their keyboards, even at a young age. We also have created many talented singers due to the solfege (DO, RE, MI) singing which develops their in pitch singing skills and those incredible ears for music. Many of our students are chosen to sing solos in various school or church choirs they are involved in.

Our classes enjoy performing keyboard ensembles, learning to play different parts at the same time, creating a keyboard band or orchestra. We utilize the up-to-date keyboard instruments using various instrument voices such as violin, flute, marimba, grand piano, etc. The ensembles provide fun musical experiences in many different styles. This sets the stage for many of our students to go on to additional instruments with ease and to create compositions beyond piano solos.

All styles of music
The Yamaha students are exposed to all styles of music and the graduates have the ability to progress in any musical directions they choose. Our graduates do extremely well in classical performance competitions as well as being chosen in their respective school jazz bands. Keyboard Music Works provides teachers that are qualified to teach on any keyboard instrument - piano, organ, electronic pianos and keyboards. And, we have well educated teachers who teach various styles of music - classical, jazz, spiritual, and popular.
