Judging by the many surviving examples of both tile and natural stone installations thousands of years old in almost perfect condition, mudwork is the highest quality installation option available. Mudwork consists of the application of a relatively thin layer of a sand, cement, lime and water mixture over a stable substrate to create the desired plane to install tile or stone. Flat, curved . . . sloped to drain, or almost any other shape imaginable.
