"With growth comes change"
Torch Lake Federal Credit Union would like to announce a possible change in the future. We may consolidate offices to one central location. This is so that we can bring you updated services through technology and growth. Serving you since 1955 and into the future.
Torch Lake Federal Credit Union Board of Directors

Hope you are enjoying our new website and find navigating it with ease. With the above comment on "change and growth" I would like to make it clear that we are NOT closing our Credit Union. We are simply looking into consolidating locations. The Laurium membership has grown and to accommodate we must move to a larger location. This is combined with "ever so changing" technology, economy and rising costs. Just like the new season, we are taking it "one step at a time". We will continue to do our best to please all of our membership. We appreciate your loyalty to our Credit Union. And remember.....help us grow...tell a friend and neighbor !! We are a community Credit Union so we welcome YOU !!

We are a full financial Credit Union and we have been here since 1955. It is due to our loyal members (customers) that we remain today.
Whether your needs are big or small, we are just a phone call away with hometown customer service, something everyone appreciates in times such as these.
We are a 5 Star Bauer rated Credit Union and we are here for you. When you walk into our doors, we know you by name.

Child fraud happens when someone steals your child's identity. It can happen with social security numbers or birth dates. It can happen by someone you don't know.
It can happen by a relative or family friend who has credit problems of their own.
Once your child's information is stolen, it could be used to open credit cards,
take out loans, or even claimed by others on taxes. In essence, someone
else could completely take over your child's identity.
Some warning signs exist. Watch for these possible indications of child fraud.
* Is your child receiving pre-approved credit card offers in the mail?
* Is your child receiving bank, credit card or other financial statements in the mail? These mailings
do not include any accounts you hold jointly with your child.
* Is your child receiving phone calls or letters from collection agencies?
If one of these warning signs or others has you concerned, it is important to contact one
of the three major credit bureaus to look into whether child fraud is occurring.
If you would like the information for the three credit reporting bureaus visit: www.annualcreditreport.com. This site provides a free credit report to all consumers
from each credit reporting bureau once per year.

Tips to keep your Credit, ATM and Debit Cards safe

For Credit and ATM or Debit Cards:
*be cautious disclosing your account number over the phone unless you know you are dealing with a reputable company.
*Never put your account number on the outside of an envelope or postcard.

*Draw a line through blank spaces on charge or debit slips above the total so the amount cannot be changed.
*Don't sign a blank charge or debit slip.
*Tear up carbons and save your receipts to check against your monthly statements.
*Cut up old cards - cutting through the account number - before disposing of them.
*Open monthly statements promptly and compare them with your receipts. Report mistakes or discrepancies as soon as possible to the special address listed on your statement for inquiries. Under the FCBA (credit cards) and the EFTA (ATM or debit cards), the card issuer must investigate errors reported to them within 60 days of the date your statement was mailed to you.
*Keep a record - in a safe place separate from your cards - of your account numbers, expiration dates, and the telephone numbers of each card issuer so you can report a loss quickly.
*Carry only those cards that you anticipate you'll need.
*Do not keep unactivated cards in the same place as the PIN number.

For ATM or debit cards:
*Don't carry your PIN in your wallet or purse or write it on your ATM or debit card.
*Never give your PIN number for on-line purchases
*Never write your PIN on the outside of a deposit slip, an envelope, or other papersthat could be easily lost or seen.
*Carefully check ATM or debit card transactions before you enter the PIN or before you sign the receipt; the funds for this item will be fairly quickly transferred out of your checking or other deposit account.
*Periodically check your account activity. This is particularly important if you bank online. Compare the current balance and recent withdrawals or transfers to those you've recorded, including your current ATM and debit card withdrawals and purchases and your recent checks. If you notice transactions you didn't make, or if your balance has dropped suddenly without activity by you, immediately report the problem to your card issuer. Someone may have co-opted your account information to commit fraud.
