At Joseph R. Nemeth, D.D.S. & Associates, our practice has always been on the leading edge of patient care. We incorporate the newest technologies and techniques to bring state-of-the-art care to our patients. We believe that patient comfort is an essential part of quality dental care. Our entire staff is dedicated to assuring our patients' comfort and relaxation in a friendly and pleasant environment.

What is periodontics?

Periodontics is a specialty within the field of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal (gum) diseases. It is a specialty that meets a widespread need. Periodontal disease strikes three out of four people and causes 70 percent of all adult tooth loss. Frequently painless, it is a disease that can often be detected only by a dentist or dental hygienist.
Periodontal disease is an infection caused by bacteria that break down the gum and bone tissue that support teeth. When bacteria are uncontrolled, the resulting destruction can lead to tooth loss. Fortunately, the disease can usually be controlled with appropriate professional treatment and follow-up care.

Dental Implants

When tooth loss occurs, dental implants can be used to stabilize and support replacement teeth. Dental implants replace a tooth's roots and provide an anchor for the replacement teeth.
Dentures and bridges that are anchored by dental implants can be as permanent and sturdy as natural teeth and in some cases, even more so. As a result, dental implants return a sense of self-confidence and well-being to patients' lives by providing stability similar to natural teeth.

Sedation Dentistry

Fewer than 50 percent of all people in the United States see a dentist regularly. Putting off dental care only makes the situation worseand more expensive to fix. While some people are just too busy for multiple dental appointments, most people who avoid the dentist do so out of fear.

To help fearful patients overcome their anxiety, sedation dentistry is available at Dr. Nemeths practice. Drs. Nemeth and Katranji believe strongly that all of their patients should have the option to be in as relaxed a state as possible while undergoing their dental procedures.

Conscious sedation dentistry allows Drs. Nemeth and Katranji to perform the work you need while you relax. They can accomplish in one visit what might otherwise have taken several appointments. Gum treatment, implant placement, smile enhancement, and other procedures can be completed while you relax comfortably.

Dental sedation techniques include nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral conscious sedation, and intravenous sedation. Many patients prefer nitrous oxide, which is a gas that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small nose piece during a procedure.

With oral conscious sedation, administered before an appointment, the patient takes a small pill that produces a delightful feeling of relaxation and NO memory of the procedure. For patients with special needs or those requiring lengthy visits, intravenous (IV) sedation is available. IV sedation is administered through a vein at the time of the procedure to ensure a patients maximum relaxation and comfort. Oral sedation and IV sedation are not general anesthesia, which we do not do in the office, and they are extremely safe. With oral and IV sedation, vital signs are monitored closely and recorded throughout the procedure.

Feel free to discuss your sedation options with Drs. Nemeth and Katranji before your procedure. Their goal is to make your experience as comfortable and anxiety-free as possible.

For over 25 years the practice of Joseph R. Nemeth, D.D.S. & Associates has led the way toward excellence in periodontal care. Our office uses advanced technology that ranges from state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to therapeutic approaches that enhance the results of treatment and maximize patient comfort.

What You Need To Know
Proper dental hygiene is not only good for your teeth, but it could very well save your life!

Dr. Nemeth explains just how important that can be in this WDIV Channel 4 report.

Did You Know That Gum Disease May Contribute to or Aggravate Many Other Serious Diseases?
Numerous recent studies have shown a connection between the oral bacteria found in gum disease and other medical conditions. The bacteria enter the blood stream and travel throughout the body. When the body's defenses respond, cytokines are generated, which can lead to serious health problems such as increased risk of cardiovascular disease, aggravation of diabetes, pneumonia and other respiratory diseases, stroke, and even adverse pregnancy outcomes. New study information indicates that oral inflammation can even trigger insulin resistance in diabetics.
The potential effects of gum disease are associated with a greater risk of developing certain diseases or experiencing certain events:

Increasingly, the medical community is viewing periodontal disease as an infection that creates a chronic state of inflammation in the body. Researchers speculate that this inflammation strains the immune system, making the body more susceptible to a wide range of health problems.
Despite the growing evidence, many people are not aware of the possible connection between periodontal disease and other diseases. Because we care about you and your total health, we try to keep you aware and informed about periodontal disease and its effects.
