1957 - James E. Tomblinson, FAIA returns from San Francisco to establish an architecture practice with Cliff Gibbs. Jim is a graduate of the University of Michigan with graduate study at University of California, Berkeley. In the firm’s early days when jobs were slow, Jim and Cliff passed the time playing ping pong in the garage.
1961 - Attracted by the innovative quality of work emanating from what would become known as THA, Jerry Harburn joined the firm in 1961. Harburn, having already distinguished himself at the University of Michigan by achieving the highest academic average among architectural graduates, had just completed his architectural internship with renowned architect Eero Saarinen.
1994 - Incorporated in 1968, the firm has consistently promoted a built environment of the highest quality while at the same time being a leader in and remaining committed to historic preservation as well as energy conservation and management. To these ends, THA expanded its architectural services to include mechanical and electrical engineering in 1991.
In 1994, the firm changed its name to THA Architects Engineers reflecting the gradual transfer of ownership to associates dedicated to the same principles upon which Jim and Jerry founded THA.
2007 - We aren't playing ping pong anymore!
