Northwoods Resort has 16 newly remodeled housekeeping cabins and cottages for your vacation rental. Each cabin is equipped with cable TV and has a full kitchen with utensils, flatware, pots and pans, a full sized refrigerator, freezer access, & gas stove/oven. Many also have gas or wood-burning fireplaces. Please bring all of your consumables along with towels and wash cloths. The bathrooms are all equipped with showers. The beds range from twin to queen-size. All bedding is provided. Our cabins range in size from cozy single bedrooms to spacious 5 bedroom cottages.

Northwoods Resort is just 2 miles from the beaches of Lake Superior, experience the exhilarating cold of the world's largest fresh water lake. Travel to Pictured Rocks to appreciate the clarity of this lake's waters.

Wherever you go, be it a secluded beach, a woodland path, or in a boat inland or on the big water, you can get away from it all.
Our canoe & kayak trips can begin at the shores of Northwoods Resort, or you can opt for a shorter run, being dropped off at the first bridge downstream. You have the option of getting picked up at the bridges, or canoe all the way to the beach at Lake Superior. Pack a lunch and your camera!

For those who prefer to do a little shopping, check out the gift shops locally in Munising or in Marquette. While in Marquette check out the Superior Dome, Presque Isle, the Lakefront, the malls, downtown, and "The Village" on Third Street. Marquette has a wide variety of eating establishments and movie theaters For those more adventurous, see Marquette Mountain by car or Sugar Loaf on foot. The views from both are among Michigan's finest!
Things to do in AuTrain:
Swim at Northwoods Resort on AuTrain Lake's finest bathing beach or on the unparalleled public "singing sand" beaches of Lake Superior's AuTrain Bay.
Fish AuTrain Lake or River for yellow perch, walleye, northern pike, small mouth bass, or whatever may be swimming upstream to spawn, on your own boat or a Northwoods Resort livery boat. With your own boat, you might also fish the waters of Lake Superior for trout and salmon.

Deep sea charters are also available nearby to pursue the finest lake trout fishing in the Great Lakes.

Numerous other lakes are waiting for you to explore where you can expect to be the only fisherman on the lake.
Sightseeing adventures abound within easy day trips from Northwoods Resort. Pam and Ed can assist you in planning trips to any destination in the U.P.

Locally we recommend visiting the Pictured Rocks. You can see these by taking a cruise along the Pictured Rocks and see lighthouses and shipwrecks. Don't miss the Glass bottom boat tours of the Alger Underwater preserve, Scuba dive the wrecks or rent a pontoon boat for a trip along the Pictured Rocks, visit the many waterfalls, both well known and those which only the most intrepid of fall-oholics have seen, and day trips to Grand Island National Recreation Area. You should also plan to ride, by car or mountain bike, the forest roads to see the AuTrain area, perhaps stopping by one of the secluded restaurants located in the surrounding forest.

Mountain bikes are available for rent locally. The Hiawatha National Forest surrounding Northwoods Resort affords a wide variety of biking experiences.
Snowmobiling is rated the finest in the nation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. With our dependable snowfall, our miles of well groomed trails, and the number and variety of businesses catering to the snowmobiler, you'll be coming back time and again. Snowmobile rentals nearby. Permits available locally. Easy trail access from your cabin door.
Cross Country Skiing is fabulous with miles of untraveled forest to explore, ungroomed trails to follow, including the North Country Trail, and the many groomed Cross Country trail systems maintained for your use.
Autumn in AuTrain affords the hunter a wide variety of game to pursue: Bear, Grouse, Woodcock, Rabbit, Deer, and waterfowl. Northwoods Resort maintains several duck blinds on AuTrain Lake where you may see anything from mallards to old squaw.
Golfers appreciate the many courses in Munising, Gwinn, Escanaba, Harvey, and Marquette-Negaunee.

After a busy day, enjoy a sauna or take a dip in the lake. We have a wonderful sandy beach for swimming, wading, and just relaxing.
Canoeing and kayaking are also convenient at Northwoods Resort where we maintain a canoe and kayak livery offering three trips from 3 hours to all day long.

Sunsets and the underappreciated sunrises are spectacular along Lake Superior, be it AuTrain Bay, Grand Island, Miner's Castle, or 12 Mile Beach.
Birders have an opportunity to walk the song bird trail starting at the AuTrain Lake USFS campground. Birdwatchers will also be able to see a number of interesting waterfowl along the AuTrain River.
Historians can make day trips to the Munising Historical Museum, view the many historical buildings in Munising, Marquette's Maritime Museum, Negaunee's Iron Mining Museum, Ishpeming's U.S. Ski Hall of Fame, Christmas' Bay Furnace, or the ghost town at Fayette State Park.

From Lower Michigan: We are 135 miles from the Mackinac Bridge. Take US-2 from 1-75 to M-117 or M-77. Upon reaching M-28 turn to the left traveling through Munising. Go 8 more miles and turn left on AuTrain-Forest Lake Rd. Northwoods Resort is 2 miles south of the intersection on the north shore of AuTrain Lake.
From Eastern Wisconsin or Illinois: We are 120 miles from Menominee. Follow M-35 to Escanaba, taking US-2/41 to Rapid River. Take US41 north to Trenary turning right on M-67. Then turn right onto M-94. At Forest Lake turn left onto AuTrain Forest Lake Road. Follow this road for 8 miles to the north shore of AuTrain Lake and Northwoods Resort.
From Duluth: Follow US-2 to M-28 at Wakefield. Follow M-28 through Marquette. 26 miles east of the M-28/US 41 intersection, turn right on the AuTrain-Forest Lake Road. Northwoods Resort is 2 miles south on the north shore of AuTrain Lake.
