Massage therapy is one of the oldest forms of medicine, providing relief from stress, pain, and discomfort. When the body is not comfortable and feeling right, usually from muscular pain, it is said to be in a state of dis-ease (not at ease, or diseased).
What does SomataPoints mean, or what does it stand for? Somata is derived from the word somatic, the bodys soft tissue, fascia and muscle covering. Points is derived from trigger point therapy. Trigger points in soft tissue or muscle tissue will develop pain in related or sometimes more distant parts of the body. Combining these concepts is what SomataPoints Therapeutic Massage is all about.
Don's practice is focused on the principles of the St. John Method of NMT, which is a comprehensive program of soft tissue manipulation techniques that balance the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord and nerves) with the structure and form of the musculoskeletal system (skeleton and muscles of the body). When the body is aligned on the midsagittal, coronal, and horizontal planes, the tone of somatic (body covering) and visceral (internal organ) tissues improves. As tone is normalized, the nervous system is also balanced. There are ways to get at these imbalances and alleviate much of the pain and dysfunction.
At SomataPoints Therapeutic Massage, we evaluate your posture and biomechanical dysfunction, as well as the soft tissue causes of the presenting patterns and pain conditions. Then implementing treatment sessions based on evaluation of the reference points and determined distortion patterns, the tonus is normalized and the nervous system is balanced.
