Since Lenawee Medical Care Facility opened in 1970, we have been dedicated to providing the very best long term care possible to the Elders of Lenawee County, Michgan, under the direction of the Lenawee County Department of Human Services Board. The staff has worked to find ways to express our commitment to the people of this community and to each other. We are proud that we have completed all ten symbols of recognition for the Eden Alternative ®. The Eden Alternative ® enables a home to change from a medical model to a social model of care.
We have divided the facility into eight households. Elders eat in small dining rooms, participate in individualized activities, and have permanent care givers. This culture change, that we have achieved, is very innovative and something only a few nursing homes in the country have achieved. Many are at some stage of the process because they recognize it to be what Elders and their families expect.
