What is Adult Foster Care?
Under the broader umbrella of Assisted Living, the typical AFC is in a home setting, versus an institutional-type of building with "homelike" decor. Most AFC homes have 6 to 12 residents and are licensed by the state. Residents live in a secured environment and are provided with all meals, laundry, medication management, and assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including: bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, eating, etc.
Private or shared bedrooms are furnished and bathroom facilities are typically shared. Midnight's staffing arrangements are widely varied. Smaller homes are typically owner occupied or midnight staff is provided sleeping accommodations. At Rosewood we keep our "awake" overnight staff busy monitoring residents, doing laundry, housekeeping, and meal preparations.
Because an AFC is usually owner operated the decor, food service and operating standards are typically a reflection of the owners' personal tastes and standards.
