Throughout the advent season Immanuel will be having events that will help prepare us for the coming of the Christchild. Please check the church calendar for upcoming events including:
Hanging of the Greens – Saturday, November 27th 12:00 p.m. Members and friends of our church gather to add Christmas decorations to our church. A light lunch is provided.
Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony – Immanuel will provide cookies and hot chocolate for participants
Christmas Parade – Saturday, December 4th 2:00 p.m. Immanuel will provide a warming center for parade participants and hot chocolate.
Blue Christmas – Tuesday, December 21st 7:00 p.m.
Christmas Eve Service – Friday, December 24th 7:00 p.m. Candlelight service with communion.
“For Where Your Treasure Is, There Your Heart Will Be Also” has been the theme for this year’s pledge campaign. On Sunday, November 14th, those in our faith community will be dedicating ourselves and ourgifts to thework of our faith community for the coming year.
Along with churches throughout the United Church of Christ, Immanuel will be celebrating Stillspeaking Friend-Raising Sunday, a day set aside to be intentional about inviting our family, friends and neighbors to come to church with us.

World Communion Sunday – Children First Worship

Sunday, October 3rd will be World Communion Sunday. Immanuel will celebrate the Lord’s Supper along with churches around the world. It also marks the beginning of “Children First” worship on the first Sundays of the month. This is intentionally designed to have adults and young children worship together.
September Giving Tree Ministry – Bed, Blessings & Beyond

Bed, Blessings and Beyond isa household goods ministry of Love INC. They offer linens, dishes, pots and pans, as well as small kitchen appliances to those in need in the Oxford and Lake Orion area. Donations of goods and money will be collected during the month and dedicated during the September 26th worship service before delivery to Love INC.
August Giving Tree Ministry – School Supplies for FISH

The August Giving Tree ministry will be for school supplies. Working with Oxford-Orion FISH, donations of money and school supplies will be collected during the month and dedicated on Sunday, August 29th. These donations will be delivered to FISH for distribution to families who cannot afford to buy school supplies.
For the month of July we focused on the UCC mission “The Christmas Fund.”
For decades, the Christmas Fund formerly known as “Veterans of the Cross” has helped provide supplemental monies for pension and health insurance premiums to low-income retirees. At Christmas, the offering provides gift checks to hundreds of annuitants, but it also provides emergency assistance to clergy and lay employees and their families throughout the year.
On Sunday, June 27th, the sermonwas given by the Interim Conference Minister Thom Webster. After the service there was a special luncheon followed by a specialworkshop headed by Thom Webster dealing with “What Drives Immanuel?”
Thanks to everybody who helped at Immanuel’s Spring Rummage Sale on Friday, June 18thand Saturday, June19th. Unsold items were donated to the Salvation Army.
