Even some of our regular customers are at times confused about the history of the House of Chan. Some confusion arises from the fact that the old "China Gardens" was the original House of Chan.
The actual founder of the House of Chan, and for whom the street in front of the Norton Stores restaurant is named, was Gin Chan. In 1952, he opened the original House of Chan in downtown Muskegon, introducing the finest tradition of Chinese cuisine. Under Gin Chan's tutelage, Shew (Joe) Chan learned all phases of managing the restaurant.
The new House of Chan was designed in an attempt to utilize the impression of the Great Wall of China while preserving the customary Chinese entrance.
In June 1973, the House of Chan moved to its present location in the old tradition -- to the happy sound of Chinese firecrackers. In this warm and friendly atmosphere, we attend to the gustatory needs of our customers. To make dining at the House of Chan an exquisite experience, we offer a wide selection of the world's best wines and extraordinary cuisine prepared by master chefs from Hong Kong and China.
