Week Two: King Me
Psalm 97 contains a bunch of rather dark and scary poetic descriptions of the glory of Yahweh, combined with a proclamation of worship, combined with warnings to people who worship idols, culminating in light being shed on the righteous.
It is frightening and jubilant at the same time.
We are told to be "glad" because of the reign of The King and to "rejoice," followed by images and word pictures of something akin to The Great and Powerful Oz (when he was scary with a big green head).
We are supposed to feel these contrasts.
All of the contrasting images and language serve to support and strengthen one very large idea:
There is a King. We are not Him.
