Don’t get bogged down with how things were done in the past – start with a clean slate to invent the future. That was the advice computer icon Steve Wozniak had for the more than 800 people who attended a special presentation as part of the American Ingenuity: Embracing the Freedom to Dream program series. Wozniak was a co-founder of Apple Computer and created the Apple IIe, ushering in the era of the personal computer. Wozniak also had advice for the students in the audience: never believe someone who says something can’t be done. The American Ingenuity series continues at the Lorenzo Cultural Center through Nov. 21.
Having never traveled abroad before, Marlena Maiuri (in the middle of the adjacent photo with fellow students Elda Cali and Irene Chungang) had a few reservations when she signed up for a four-credit study tour of Guadalajara, Mexico, led by Susanna Williams, foreign language professor, this summer. Turned out, she had nothing to worry about. “It was a lot less stressful than I thought it would be, and I want to go back next summer and stay with the same host family,” said Maiuri, a nursing major. “It completely opened my eyes, and now I want to experience as many cultures as possible. I want to see more parts of Mexico, then Spain and the rest of Europe.”
